Soundlings is a UK-based Phonics resource company founded by qualified teachers and parents Claire and Jemma, alongside Kate Lawler. Formerly known as Sounds Fun Resources, Soundlings represents an exciting new chapter. A thoughtful rebrand that builds on a trusted foundation, with an even stronger focus on clarity, confidence and making early reading feel so much fun that children don’t even realise they’re learning.
At Soundlings, we create playful, reusable Phonics resources to help children aged 3–7 take their first confident steps into reading. Whether you’re supporting your child at home, leading a nursery group, or teaching in an Early Years or Key Stage 1 classroom, Soundlings is designed to make Phonics feel achievable and engaging for everyone involved.
As teachers and parents ourselves, we understand both how Phonics is taught in school and how confusing it can sometimes feel at home. Many parents question whether they’re pronouncing pure sounds correctly, blending in the right way, or choosing resources that truly match classroom practice. With so many Phonics materials available, knowing what is accurate and what isn’t can feel overwhelming.

Everything we create is rooted in real classroom experience and aligned with the progression followed in UK schools. Our resources model pure sounds and sound letter correspondence from the very start. That means no misleading shortcuts and no confusing picture prompts, no ‘i’ for ice cream’, no ‘g’ for giraffe’ and no ‘u’ for unicorn’. Instead, we use carefully chosen examples that reinforce correct pronunciation and secure early understanding, giving children the strong foundations they need to become confident readers.
A special part of what makes Soundlings unique is our much-loved Soundlings characters, who guide children through each resource. These friendly companions provide memorable hooks, prompts and gentle reminders that help children retain what they’re learning, all while keeping the experience playful, engaging and fun. Every piece of artwork across our range is completely bespoke. Carefully created to match the thoughtful design and learning intention behind each individual product whilst ensuring consistency, clarity and charm throughout.
Kate first discovered Sounds Fun Resources as a parent after seeing the positive impact the materials had on her own daughter’s reading journey. That experience sparked a genuine passion for early literacy and a shared belief in making Phonics more accessible and less overwhelming. Now, as a joint founder of Soundlings, Kate is committed to championing early reading, language development and the power of sharing stories and conversations in everyday life.
All Soundlings products are made in the UK and thoughtfully designed for little hands and busy environments. Durable, hands-on and inviting, they are perfect for homes, nurseries and classrooms alike. We encourage children to explore sounds through play, movement and talk, helping learning feel natural rather than pressured. For practitioners, our resources strengthen Phonics foundations within Early Years and KS1 practice. For parents, they offer clear, practical support that builds confidence alongside children’s skills.
